It seems like more than 20 years have passed since the release of GTA 5. Fortunately, it’s only 10, and the game has retained its community of players and, most importantly, mod developers who create something new and something that allows you to return to the game with a new vibe.

The way mods are installed has also evolved. Some can be downloaded directly to get FiveM Mods using FiveMods or Nexus, while others require manual setup. But that’s exactly what makes GTA 5 so beloved: the endless creativity, whether it’s wild ideas, more grounded enhancements, updated visuals, or brand-new storylines. Here are the most popular mods in the community for 2025.

GTA 5 100% Save File

If you don’t want to replay the campaign again, but just want to have fun with millions in your account, open locations, and all the weapons, this mod solves the problem. It opens everything in a single game: side missions, collectibles, real estate, weapons, transport.

Installing a simple save file saves hours and is suitable for those who want to immediately go to free play or miss something, but do not want to replay the game again for the sake of a 100% run.

Fishing Mod

The modification adds a full-fledged fishing mechanic with 15 points across the map. You can buy a fishing rod, choose a place on the coast, and start fishing. The game has 21 types of fish and 50+ items that can be caught (including rare trophies that can then be placed in your house).

Mini-inventory, casting and pulling animations, and interaction with objects are supported. A bit like fishing from RDR 2, so if you want to relax, here is an option in addition to golf, yoga, and other in-game activities.

ATM Robberies & Bank Heists

In the main story, robberies are limited to specific missions. With this mod, you decide when and where to strike. It adds 47 ATMs and 10 banks across the map that you can rob. Once a heist begins, the wanted level system activates quickly, police respond fast, and getting away with the money is just as important as the robbery itself. These heists involve more than just pointing a gun at someone.

To rob a bank, you need to prepare, much like in GTA Online. You choose your mask, weapons, partners, and sometimes solve puzzles. If you can’t find one, feel free to use special console commands.

Home Invasion

Another heist mod that is fully compatible with “ATM Robberies & Bank Heists”. The mod offers a choice of dozens of houses across the map (random spawn without restrictions). You can break in and loot them as you please.

Fortunately, these are not empty houses. In addition to items, each house can have NPC residents, security, and security systems (motion sensors, cameras, lasers, etc.). The time of day and area are also taken into account. To increase interest, you can apply some stealth mods if you want a new experience.

The Red House

A content pack with over 20 additional missions. Among the tasks are security, murder, robbery, and kidnapping. There is a simple system for hiring assistants: you can call two or three bodyguards. Missions are launched through a special point on the map and can be completed in any order. Supports most popular mods (including interface and weapon extensions).

No Water + Tsunami + Atlantis

One of the most spectacular visual mods. Removes water from the map or floods the entire city to the roofs of skyscrapers. You can turn on the tsunami mode, in which waves cover the streets, or explore Los Santos as an underwater metropolis. It goes well with water transport and survival mods. But be prepared for the fact that your PC can “heat” a little from such a large amount of water, especially if you use additional graphics mods (like VisualV).

How to Install Mods for GTA 5: Guide

To install most mods, you will need a few standard tools and basic knowledge. Here is a short order:

Preparing the game

  • Make sure you have Script Hook V installed – this is a library that allows you to run scripts.
  • Install OpenIV. This is a file manager, with its help you can replace game elements.
  • Some mods require ScriptHookVDotNet and NativeUI (these are components for C# scripts).

Installation

  • Download the desired mod from a trusted site (most often this is GTA5-mods.com or Nexus Mods).
  • Read the instructions inside the archive carefully: most often, the mod must either be dropped into the scripts folder or installed via OpenIV.
  • If the mod contains .dll, .cs, or .asi files, then move them to the main game folder.
  • Make sure that Rockstar antivirus is not enabled in the game (it can block mods).

Mod Managers and Mod Loaders

  • For convenience, you can use Mod Manager or Nexus Mods. They allow you to enable/disable mods by pressing a button or install them directly from the site (there are paid and free versions).
  • Some mods use OIV installers that open via OpenIV and install files in the right places themselves.

If you do everything correctly, you can turn a single GTA 5 into a completely new game. The most important thing is to disable all mods if you want to play GTA Online or GTA RP. Some servers have built-in anti-cheat by default, and any change to the game files is considered a cheat or cheating script. In the best case, you will simply disconnect from the server, and in the worst case, you will get banned forever.
